Simcoe hops are a proprietary hop variety, which means they're protected by a trademark and can only be grown and sold by licensed growers.
History Simcoe Hops
Simcoe hops were developed in the 1990s by Yakima Chief Ranches, a hop grower in the Yakima Valley of Washington state.
They're a hybrid of several hop varieties, including Brewer's Gold, a German hop called Mittelfrüh, and an unknown wild American hop.
Simcoe were first released to the public in 2000 and quickly gained popularity among brewers for their unique flavour and aroma.
