What is Liquid Malt Extract?


Liquid malt extract is a thick liquid, amber-coloured syrup made from malted barley that has been brewed and concentrated. It is typically composed of malted barley, water, and sometimes additional ingredients such as hops to make a Hopped Liquid Malt Extract. Liquid malt extract is available in various colours, depending on the variety of malted barley used and the brewing process. Cederex, malt extract is commonly used in the production of beer.

How is Liquid Malt Extract Made?


Liquid malt extract is made by mashing malted barley and water to create a sweet wort, then boiled to remove most of the water and to concentrate the sugars and flavours. The wort is filtered to remove any solids, and then liquid is boiled again to create a thick syrup. Depending on the desired color and flavour, the wort may be boiled for varying lengths of time and may include additional ingredients such as hops or yeast. Once the syrup is cooled, it is packaged and sold for use in a variety of applications.
